Is the Bible only partially true or is the Bible free from errors? Let’s explore some questions you may have.
Did Jesus die and rise again three days after his death?
Yes, he died and rose again. He’s in heaven. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 says, “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures . . . .”
God gives those who accept him as Lord and Savior a helper called the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit lives inside of all Christians and his job is to help us understand the instructions Jesus gave us. Scripture explains our purpose and shows us how to live lives pleasing to God. The Bible is our instruction manual for living and it’s 100% true.
We will all face judgment at the end of the world. Believers will receive rewards for how they lived their life and nonbelievers will be judged and sentenced to a life in hell for all eternity.
Is the Bible free of errors?
Do you believe there are errors in the Bible since men wrote it? God inspired men to write the Bible, so all of its words are directly from God. They are not the words of men. Why would men write a book telling you how to live your life, telling you sins you are not to commit, and finish by telling you that you will face judgment at the end of days? Because God loves you and wants the best for you.
Is the Bible outdated?
Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” The Bible speaks to everyone differently. Depending on what problem you are going through, God’s Word will help give you direction, but only if you trust it. God wants us to know him more and we do this by reading his word.
You can read the same Bible verse every day for seven days and it will say something different to you each day. It speaks to you according to what you need to hear. So it’s alive in this way.
The Bible has three purposes:
- First, when we read our Bible, God reveals himself to us. The more we read, the more we can learn the intimate details about God. God wants us to learn about him more every day. We will still learn when we get to heaven too.
- Second, the Bible teaches us about salvation so we can live a life that is pleasing to God. His word shows us how to lead others to follow him so they don’t spend an eternity in hell.
- Finally, the Bible gives us commandments. These instructions help us make everyday decisions. The greatest of the commandments is to love God and love others.
Our Bible is timeless.
Since the Bible convicts us of our sins, people say that the Bible is not true. No one likes to hear that they are doing something wrong. Since God loves you, he shows you problems in your life so he can help you achieve his ultimate purpose. He wants you to be Christ-like in character, actions, mannerisms, and conduct.
People question specific stories in the Bible; the main one is if Jesus’ mother was a virgin.
Luke 1:26-36 says, “In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, ‘Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.’
“Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.’
“’How will this be,’ Mary asked the angel, ‘since I am a virgin?’
“The angel answered, ‘The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month.’”
The prediction came true; this is one of the strongest examples of how the Bible is free of errors.
These verses make it perfectly clear that Jesus was born to a virgin. Isaiah 7:14 says, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” This was predicted at least fifteen years before Jesus’ birth.
Is the Bible free of errors or only partially true?
God is the only one who can perform miracles and there are several places in the Bible where Jesus performed a miracle. As outlandish as some of the miracles seem, they are all true.
Since God is unchangeable, it doesn’t matter how much time passes because God will never change. Therefore, his Word will always be 100% accurate, making the Bible free from errors because it was God-inspired.
