Is Jesus knocking on the door of your heart?

Revelation 3:20 says, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Jesus died on the cross for you. No one is good enough to enter heaven without accepting the offered grace through Jesus by placing your faith in him. He knocks on the door of everyone’s heart, but are you letting him enter since he is the light of life?

Is Jesus knocking on the door of your heart?

We have free will. That means that we can choose whether or not we will accept Jesus as our Savior. John 6:44 says, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.” Jesus needs to invite us, but we can decide to ignore him and say we will later ask him into our hearts.

God offers every person the opportunity, but you won’t hear him knock on your door forever.

When I was growing up, I lived in a small rural town in Pennsylvania. Our house was a few blocks from the fire station. On several occasions, the siren jolted me awake. I lived in that house for over fifteen years, but I moved into an apartment right across the street from the fire station when I turned eighteen.

Over Christmas that year, a friend stayed with me. In the middle of the night, the siren sounded, scaring her out of her deep sleep. The following day she asked me how often the deafening siren sounds in the middle of the night. I told her that it hasn’t sounded since I moved into the apartment.

If you don’t answer God’s knock, you will eventually quit hearing the knock.

My friend looked at me like I was crazy. She said that she fell out of bed last night because the siren caused her to jump. I told her that I didn’t hear the siren because I learned to tune it out. I just didn’t hear it anymore.

If you are already a Christian, God still knocks when he wants to get your attention.

It’s the same way with Jesus. He’s still knocking, but over the years, we tune him out. If God is knocking on your heart, there is something he wants to tell you, or there’s something he wants you to deal with. His knocking may take different forms, such as not being able to sleep.

We need to pay attention to all of the ways he can knock. He may use people to get our attention, but he has a good reason any time he tries to get our attention. It is in our best interest to pay attention and answer his knocks.

God wants to use us to serve his purpose. We are here to fulfill his plans and use the gifts and talents he has given us to serve him. We only have a limited number of days on this earth.

When was the last time God spoke to you?

God speaks to me all the time, but I don’t always hear him. The last time I heard God’s thunderous voice was when I had to give my victims impact statement at the hearing for my son’s murder. God told me exactly what to say to my son’s killer about forgiving him. I received so much peace because I listened and said what he told me to say.

Will you choose to follow God and listen to his voice? Or will you ignore the one who was willing to die on a cross so that you can spend all eternity with Him in heaven?

When was the last time God spoke to you?
