The Turks and Caicos Islands, or TCI, are in the Atlantic Ocean, southeast of the Bahamas. We loved our time in Freeport, Bahamas, so I knew we’d love it here too. Over two-thirds of the population is Christian, and the coastline is over two hundred miles. Of the eight largest islands and many smaller cays, we stayed on the island of Providenciales, which is also the most populated of the islands. The largest ethnic group is black, and English is spoken throughout the country.
Tourism is one of the primary sources of income, and the US dollar is this tropical island’s principal currency. Your eyes won’t believe the breathtaking turquoise beaches God made; they will have you longing to move to the island, as they did with me. Psalm 95:5 says, “The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.”
The landscape surprised me.
The fabulous Grace Bay Beach on Providenciales forms a U-shape. There were palm trees on the resorts, hotels, and residential areas near the beach, but other than that, there weren’t many on this flat, low-lying limestone island. There were marinas, marshes, and lagoons, many with gorgeous views along the sandy access lanes leading to the water. Still, the trade winds sometimes made it chilly in January, and the island has frequent hurricanes from June through November, even though it doesn’t rain much throughout the year.
The people were terrific.
We looked high and low for a beach umbrella but couldn’t find one. So I had the brilliant idea to try to find a local because who better to ask than someone who lives there? Our first stop was at a dive center. The kind man said they didn’t sell them, but I could get one at Doit Center. Mike googled it, but it appeared to be on a different island.
We stopped at another beach, and a friendly lady visitor sitting in the surf introduced me to her children, who lived on the island. They also said to buy one at Doit, but this time, they gave us precise directions.
So, can you see God in the Turks and Caicos?
Yes. I saw God in both families as they shared more tips about the island and truly cared that Mike and I had a joyous, relaxing vacation. It’s always nice to visit new places, immerse ourselves in their culture, and take home a little more knowledge about the amazing world God created—and sometimes we take home a few recipes too.
Sightseeing is a must-do, but we couldn’t do everything because of our budget.
There are numerous shipwrecks around the island, and I would’ve loved to take a few tours. But everything costs money. We went to the beach in the evenings just after sunset to look for glowworms, which were supposed to appear in the water a few days after each full moon, but we didn’t see any. There were also trips to other cays, whale-watching tours, dolphin tours, and too many more to name here.
If you ever find yourself in the fabulous Providenciales in TCI, head to the island’s northeast side to see the best beaches. Take in the views and let the waves relax your body, mind, spirit, and soul as you see God in the Turks and Caicos.
Where do you love to travel? Comment so I can check it out, as we are always looking for more places to visit.

Beach and Sunshine sounds good right now as we are in the middle of winter in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. I shouldn’t say that; I love the winter as everything is covered with snow looking so clean and beautiful. Thank you for sharing your trip to the Turks and Caicos Islands which brings some sunshine into a snowy day here. I enjoy following you around to exotic places and reading about your experiences and the sights.
One of the places I would like to go someday is “Saint Martin”. Since the island is split into a French and a Dutch side, I imagine the food there must be out of this world. Well, maybe someday I will go. Looking forward to your next travel adventure.
Saint Martin is gorgeous. Mike and I rented a car and toured the fabulous island, soaking up the atmosphere and the sun. The food was delicious, and we may visit again someday, but the world is so big that there isn’t enough time to see it all. I hope you can make it there sometime. Enjoy that beautiful snow-covered mountain view from your windows—I miss it.
