What does the anointing of the Holy Spirit mean? Do you fight or flee from your battles?
I don’t know about you, but it depends on the battle I am facing. Sometimes I feel like I am not competent, and I want to run away. Other times, I am so angry that I will face whatever battle is before me and face it with the strength of a lion?
What about you? Do you fight or flee from your battles?
Are there certain circumstances that make you run away from a battle? Maybe you are afraid that someone will embarrass you, so rather than stay and fight, you choose to leave. I’ve done that several times and I’m not saying it is the wrong choice, but it depends on the circumstance.
What does the anointing of the Holy Spirit mean, and how can he help you fight your battles?
David, a shepherd, was the youngest of eight siblings. God chose David to be the next king over Israel. In 1 Samuel 16:13, the prophet Samuel anointed David with oil. The anointing oil represented the Holy Spirit coming to live in David’s heart.
The Holy Spirit is not something we have to ask for. It’s a gift from God. He comes into every believer’s heart when they accept him as their Savior. The Holy Spirit guides us by renewing our minds.
What is the Holy Spirit’s job?
The Holy Spirit’s job is to enable us to become the person God wants us to be. He also helps us to do the work that God calls us to do. We need to accept that we are powerless to do God’s will without the Holy Spirit’s help. We need to surrender everything to him and have the faith that he can handle it. It’s our faith that releases the Holy Spirit to work through us.
The Holy Spirit gave David wisdom because he fully surrendered to the Holy Spirit. David knew when to fight or flee when confronted. If we don’t let the Holy Spirit lead us, we will fail. But David knew the importance of listening to the spirit.
We need to listen to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit in David and us help us do what God calls us to do, instead of choosing to do what we want to do. When we listen to his prompting and take a leap of faith to do what he calls us to do, we receive his strength because, without it, we are inadequate.
Goliath was a Philistine giant and was nine feet tall. The Israelites were fighting the Philistines, and every day for forty days, Goliath shouted to Israel, challenging someone to come and fight him. The Israelites were terrified, so no one would fight him. David’s brothers were at the battle line when David delivered food to them. While David was there, Goliath shouted his defiance against Israel, and the Israelites fled.
Will David fight Goliath or flee from the battle because the Holy Spirit anointed him?
David volunteers to fight the giant because God told him to do so. King Saul, the current king, tells David that he is too young to fight the warrior Goliath. But David convinces Saul to let him fight by telling him that he fought a lion and a bear to protect the sheep in his care. David didn’t like Goliath defying the armies of the living God. He was not afraid of Goliath because David knew that the battle was the Lord’s because of his anointing by the Holy Spirit.
Goliath ridiculed David, threatening to annihilate him. 1 Samuel 17:45 says David said to the Philistine, โYou come against me with sword and spear and javelin,ย but I come against you in the nameย of theย Lordย Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.โ
With faith in God, David killed the giant with the first stone he put in his slingshot. It hit Goliath in the forehead, and he fell with his face to the ground. Then David took Goliath’s sword and cut off his head, ending the battle as the Philistines ran away. David knew all along that he would win this battle because the Lord was on his side.
Has the Holy Spirit anointed you? Do you fight or flee from your battles?
It depends on the situation if you should fight or flee. We need to face our battles if the Lord tells us to. Sometimes he tells us to turn away from them, but when he tells us we need to fight, we need to trust the Holy Spirit to direct our steps. God will fight our battles for us if we fully surrender to him. His power is stronger than any enemy we can ever face.
The first thing we need to do when we face a battle is to pray to God and ask him for direction. We need to wait until he tells us if we are to fight or flee. If we are to fight the battle, we must have the faith that God will win the battle for us. If he tells us to walk away, we must have faith that God will work it out for our good.
The worst battle God told me to face was my son’s killer. He told me to give my victims impact statement to show the killer my love and forgiveness. Because I had faith and listened to God, I had peace beyond all understanding. I surrendered to God, and he blessed me; for that, I am grateful.
What battle are you facing? What is the Holy Spirit telling you to do?
Thank you for the reminder – to wait upon the Lord. If the fight is worth fighting for, He will let us know, if we listen.

So important to talk with God and listen to the Holy Spirit when He speaks to us. Sometimes we have to remember to consult God before we move forward. Be still and know that He is God. Thanks for this reminder.
Today was a hard day. I called on the holy spirit to help me a few times. And things looked up each time ๐
I firmly believe in picking my battles. Not all fights are mine, and not all of them are worth fighting.
It takes practice to listen and obey the Holy Spirit. Thank you for sharing this very important information. Waiting on the Lord is always best.

I tend to flee when my nervous system feels threatened. I know it comes from lack of self confidence. I am learning to stand and fight when its my battle and something I believe in, regardless of how others will view me and my opinion. Great insight.
This is such a great and insightful post. It’s so important to listen to the Lord and fight the battles he sets for us and walk away from the ones he doesn’t want us to be apart of.
I used to flee…now I fight, when fighting is what’s required. Great insights.
Great info and great perspective!
I love this! Listening is the best advice and often forgotten. Our thoughts can keep us too busy sometimes. Thank you for this!
My kids went to Catholic school, as did I, so we learned to connect with the Holy Spirit early on. So important to keep the faith!
